The hand is kept still in a special retractor. The diseased tissue and skin are removed from the palm side of the finger. You can see the nerves to the finger running up each side, and the tendons in the middle of the finger.
Once the skin graft has been applied, a dressing is tied to the finger before the plaster is put on.
